I have been looking for a way to share my paintings, and this website is my answer; right now, it is the only purpose.
These recent paintings are larger than usual for me, and focus on some of the environmentally sensitive natural features of the area, including Wetlands, Eelgrass, Grassland, and the Puget Sound.
The trajectory of my life has brought me to this, being an artist in my "golden years". I studied architecture, then did four years in the Navy, seeing a good deal of the world, then two years of graduate school before beginning my career in architecture. When I retired I found that painting held my interest, and found another chapter of my life in art.
I have tried many mediums, but am currently doing oil painting almost exclusively. I worked in watercolors for years, then tried pastels and acrylics, but the possibilities of oil is what has stuck with me. I have enjoyed plein air painting, but find studio work to be where I spend my time.
I've always enjoyed the outdoors, and the natural world is the source of my material. I have enjoyed the experience of painting outdoors, watching the light and colors change, seeing the world in front of me. As time has gone on, my paintings have become less literal and more abstract; now I enjoy the mixing of colors and exploring composition.
